Item 5. Other Event
Financing Activities
On October 28, 2002, Portland General Electric Company issued $100 million of 5.6675% First Mortgage Bonds, maturing October 2012. The bonds were issued as a private placement. The Company purchased a policy insuring the principal and interest payments on the Bonds which will add approximately 1.5% to annual interest costs. Net proceeds from this issue will be used to reduce short-term debt, refinance current maturities of long-term debt, and for other general corporate purposes.
